Delegate Buddy Fowler Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol

The Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol inducted Delegate Buddy Fowler into the organization as an Honorary Major at the State Capitol on January 13, 2015. The award is made in recognition of the role Delegate Fowler plays in ensuring the safety of the citizens of Virginia.

“I am honored to be inducted as a member of the Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. It is truly humbling to be recognized by this organization”, Buddy Fowler remarked.

“What most people don’t realize,” said Virginia Wing Commander David Carter, “is the amount of work and preparation that has to take place before we go out on a search and rescue or disaster relief mission. The General Assembly helps by ensuring we have the tools in place. It’s a large team, from the Governor and the members of the General Assembly to the volunteers on the ground. We’re grateful for the support of members such as Delegate Fowler.”

As an honorary member, Delegate Fowler is eligible to participate in Virginia Wing activities as well as fly in any of the 12 aircraft based in the Commonwealth.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 60,000 members nationwide. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of the inland search and rescue missions in the continental United States. CAP was credited by the Air Force Coordination Center with saving over 100 lives last year. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of the federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for 70 years.
